New Years intentions

I want to work out more for my New Years intention, I've already started a little bit this year but I want to make it a habit because I enjoy the feeling after a work out. It feels like you really worked hard to accomplish something and I want to enjoy that feeling every day. Also I don't want to be called fat, or chubby. I know that people say that you should be happy with how you look because that is you, and I get where they're coming from but I'm not going to be happy with the way I look if I know I can look better. I know it sounds like a very generic intention for the new year but I'm not gonna hit the gym, I consider it a step in the right direction

A special gift

A gift that I have gotten that I think is special is a vest that was given to me by my aunt on Christmas Day. There isn't anything special about the vest in itself and it's even a little worn now but I think it's special because someone gave it to me so that already makes it special and this vest was the first vest I have gotten so that made it somewhat different but cooler than my usual wardrobe so I wear it very often and since I've worn it for a while I've grown attached to it, so that's why it's special

blogging tips that I could work on

Something that I could work on is just going with what i first think of, I feel like I hold back a lot because I feel like I have to know exactly what I am going to write and how Im going to say it but I have to just let go and write what's in my mind to let my ideas out, then I can go back and revise in order to have good word choice and not go on tangents not related to the topic. Another tip that I could works with is read other blogger's work in furtherance to better my own writing. I don't read other people's blog posts because, well I have no interest in it but I have to do so in order to further my writing skills.

What I'm grateful for

When I think about my life I find that I am very lucky to have what I have. I am very grateful for what I have because I don't think that I would be the same if I didn't have what I have. I am grateful that I have my parents, I feel lucky and grateful that I grew up in a home that wanted me to shine. Grateful that my parents care so much about me and want me to be the best that I can be. I am grateful for the roof over my head and hat I have a place to sleep. I am grateful that my parents support me as much as they do because it gives me so much confidence. I am grateful that I have found a group of people that have found faith in me. I am grateful that I have very good opportunities in my life. Thank You for the little things that we don't notice but that are important to us otherwise. Also, I want to say thank you to everyone who believes in me.

If I were to go on a trip

If I had the chance to travel anywhere in the world I wouldn't know where I would want to go because I like where I am but I guess a little change of scenery couldn't hurt. If I were to go somewhere else I would probably go to Japan to learn more about its culture and to see the mountains. In Japan, there are certain things that you should and shouldn't do, so if I were to travel over there I would have to do a bit of research so I don't offend anyone there. It is said that the people that live there are usually very hospitable and welcoming. I don't know what draws me to go there, it could be the culture, the people, its nature, or could it be something else?

In 10 years

Well 10 years is quite a long time, to try to imagine what you could be doing at that time is pretty difficult but if I were to look forward 10 years, depending on what interests me now I could be doing all sorts of things when I'm 23 years of age. I could see myself studying to be an engineer or something else to do with math and science. Voice acting is something that could be interesting that I might take up in the future. I could be an artist if I decide to follow it because even though I enjoy art very much, I don't think it will be right for me, but one never knows. Something really difficult that probably won't happen but seems interesting is studying and learning to produce music but it's very farfetched. A lot can change in 10 years and because of that nothing is ever really set in stone, there are an infinite number of possibilities for the future.

summer reading project

1st part

For the summer reading assignment, I chose “Lincoln’s Grave Robbers” as my book. The author of this book is Steve Sheinkin. The book takes place in 1875 to 1876. The book is about how a counterfeiter named Benjamin Boyd was arrested and a few of his counterfeiter friends named Jack Hughes, and Terrence Mullen follow a plan to get Boyd out of jail. The plan is to steal Abraham Lincoln’s body from his grave as a ransom to get Boyd out of jail and $200,000 cash. The book alternates from a secret service agent named Patrick Tyrrell and an undercover double agent named Lewis C. Swegles helping the grave robbers in order to get information for the secret service agent.

Tyrrell is very intelligent and thinks very strategically. In the book, Tyrrell is trying to catch Boyd in the act of counterfeiting money. On page 15, it says, “Tyrrell needed to move quickly. But not too quickly. He had Boyd cornered now, and wanted to give his prey time to settle in, to feel safe. He wanted Boyd to start working on the new set of counterfeit plates. He wanted to catch Boyd In the act.” I see this as thinking strategically because he is not just rushing into it, he is planning on what to do in order to accomplish what he wants to do which is to catch Boyd in the act to have evidence. Swegles is very patient and composed when he was working. In the text, it says, “Swegles went back to the Hub. Again playing it cool, he didn’t try to approach Hughes directly… Swegles continued patiently working on his role.” This shows that he is calm when he is working undercover he has to act naturally so that he does not give himself away.

2nd part

So far in the book Swegles has been recruited by Hughes and Mullen to help them steal the body of Abraham Lincoln’s body from his tomb. Swegles goes and tells Tyrrell about their plan. As time goes on the plan becomes more refined as they try to account for the two main obstacles which are the steel door and the marble sarcophagus that is enclosing Lincoln’s casket. For that, they recruit a man named Billy Brown, who is actually a law-abiding bricklayer, and friend of Swegles named Bill Neely. Tyrrell has been told when the crime will take place by Swegles. The plan would take place on election night, November 6th, 1876. So Tyrrell’s plan was to be waiting at the monument to catch the criminals red-handed instead of before because he has no evidence until they actually commit the crime. Tyrrell and some of the other agents were in position and waiting for the Grave robbers to come. Meanwhile, Swegles, Mullen, and Hughes were starting to get the plan in action. Mullen, Hughes, and Swegles have gotten through the marble sarcophagus and are now pulling out the casket from the marble box. Mullen and Hughes thought Swegles left to get the horses and the wagon but in reality, he went to give Tyrrell the signal to go in and catch the grave robbers. As Tyrrell and his team go to catch the criminals Boom ! a gun has accidentally gone off as they ran, the element of surprise was gone. Tyrrell kicked the door open lit up a match but the room empty. Tyrrell and his team have searched around the area but Hughes and Mullen had escaped, both of them were running down the street.

Tyrrell is now facing the problem that Hughes and Mullen have escaped from him. So Tyrrell’s his problem is external because he doesn’t have a problem within himself. In the text it says, Seeing the agony in Tyrrell’s eyes…” This shows that Tyrrell really wanted to catch Hughes and Mullen by the way he is described right after they have found nothing when looking for the body snatchers.

3rd part

After Hughes and Mullen escaped from the monument they kept going North, by the break of dawn they were already many miles away from Springfield. The next day Tyrrell searched all the cars on the train looking for Hughes and Mullen but found Swegles, Tyrrell asked Swegles if he would be interested in helping in the hunt to catch Hughes and Mullen while slipping him 10 dollars, Swegles agreed. Hughes and Mullen were tired, hungry filthy and lost. They spotted two farmers loading sacks of potatoes into a wagon and asked if they could spare some milk or a piece of bread. The two farmers said no, Mullen asked if they could at least point the way to the nearest train station. The farmers did, so Hughes and Mullen headed east. Once at the train station they just hopped on without tickets so when the conductor came around to collect tickets Hughes told the conductor that they recently bought some cattle so they didn’t have money to get tickets. So Hughes said that until they got to the town of Melvin that the conductor could hold on to his revolver until he can get some money from his family to pay for the tickets. The conductor placed the pistol in his pocket while Hughes and Mullen went to go get money from his dad, then when they came back they picked up the revolver and gave the conductor the money. Mullen sent a friend of hs to ask Swegles if the coast was clear, Swegles said that it was all good, that the papers were caught up with the election. The day after Mullen was back at the Hub. That day, before Swegles has met with Mullen, Swegles tells Tyrrell the news on how he plans to meet with Mullen that night, and how Hughes is at his father’s farm that's about one hundred miles from Chicago. Hughes soon enough came back to the Hub as well. Tyrrell sent in two other detectives, ones that neither Hughes nor Mullen had seen before and put them behind bars. Hughes and Mullen asked for a lawyer. Specifically, William O’Brien since he is one of the top criminal defense lawyers. The jury found Hughes and Mullen to be guilty and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary, which Tyrrell thought was very little time but Hughes has had to pay charges after the year was over because of all the coney work he has done before this crime.

After reading this book I don’t think that there was any intentional meaning about life that the author was trying to get across to the reader. The book was more about telling the story that most of the readers might not have known about. It was made to entertain though using a true story of Abraham Lincoln’s remains almost being stolen. The reason that I might say that This book has no intentional meaning about life is that it was all about the crime and how it took place and didn’t focus on anything else.
